ACS Publications is a Division of the ACS with a core goal of the Society in advancing knowledge in the field of chemistry and the chemical enterprise. The Division publishes 85+ high-quality peer-reviewed journals covering the breadth of chemistry and allied fields, as well as numerous other high-quality products and services of benefit to the global community. ACSI has been promoting the publications in China for years. In its endeavor for a wider outreach and expansion across the globe, ACSI is rapidly expanding its global editorial presence in key markets, and is recruiting for this post Senior Marketing Manager covering Greater China.
Department Overview
The Global Marketing Department is responsible for developing marketing strategies and integrated campaign plans to engage our target audience, drive demand, and strengthen our relationships with them. The Department’s objectives for engaging our audience are to increase the brand equity and, ultimately, enable the revenue capture for the Division’s product lines of over 80 journals, eBooks, and a range of digital offerings. The current target audience includes researchers, authors, reviewers, editors, institutional/corporate librarians, administrators, funders, ACS members, and the range of end-users.
Position Summary
The Senior Marketing Manager, Greater China is an individual contributor role that manages the development, launch, maintenance, and hand-off-to sales of identified prospect and customer-focused campaigns to support Greater China sales strategies. In this capacity, the individual must develop strong technical skills with ACS Publications Marketing and Sales systems and must manage engaged and productive relations with Global Marketing peers and Sales, Sales Operations, and Business Data teams. The Senior Marketing Manager, Greater China will be expected to have a comprehensive understanding of ACS Publications’ products & services and work closely with the Greater China sales team to strategize tactics and act proactively to support annual revenue targets.
In addition, s/he develops expert competencies in marketing campaign systems and tools and acts as a training and consultative resource, along with other regional revenue marketers as they execute region-specific campaigns. S/he gathers requirements and assists in prioritizing systems and tools development to ensure all global, regional revenue marketing needs are appropriately prioritized and served.
The individual will report to the Assistant Director of Global Revenue Marketing and will collaborate closely with the regional Field Marketing Managers (US, EMEA, India & Singapore) and the regional Sales leaders to achieve our revenue goals. The incumbent is self-motivated and brings excellent communication, and organizational skills to drive efficiency, scalability, and impact the revenue marketing programs in Greater China.
Position Accountabilities
• Develop data & analytics-driven marketing campaign strategies and implement region-specific campaigns and programs that leverage a variety of marketing channels including (but not limited to) as website, paid media, email and nurture, video, events, social and library newsletters.
• Activities focus on balancing lead generation for new product sales and new customer acquisitions with non-transactional messaging that reinforces ACS’ value proposition to support renewals.
• Develop productive bi-lateral engagement with Sales staff to continuously improve campaign effectiveness, lead quality, and sales action on leads.
• Collaborate across other Global Marketing functions – product marketing, events & exhibits marketing, market research, marketing operations, communications and brand – to define and develop integrated campaign strategies and goals.
• Develop a plan to use marketing automation systems and SalesForce.com to leverage automation to efficiently deliver campaigns, track results, communicate leads, and assign personas to customer database.
• Monitor, report on, and evaluate the effectiveness of marketing campaigns against goals while maintaining a culture of continuous improvement.
• In collaboration with the Events & Exhibits marketing team, determine the appropriate attendance, messaging, and activities at library events. Manage and keep within the EMEA conferencing and exhibitions budget, while identifying impactful opportunities for sponsorships, outreach, and networking.
• Stay current with trends and issues of concern to librarians worldwide and translate knowledge into effective campaigns.
• Attend conferences, sales meetings, and exhibitions. International travel is required. Estimated 10%.
Education/Experience/Technical Knowledge
- Bachelor’s degree or higher required.
-9+ years of relevant marketing experience in Greater China and in publishing required.
-Good knowledge of open science and/or open access initiatives.
-Fluency of Mandarin and English in spoken and written form.
-Experience with marketing automation and CRM tools.
-Experience with PR, social media, digital marketing and common channels for engaging in B2B marketing.
-Proficient in SalesForce.com, Demandbase and email marketing software like Eloqua, or similar.
-Networker in regional chemistry, science, society, and publishing environment.
-Comfortable mixing strategic and operational marketing activities.
-Keywords: creative, enthusiastic, self-starting, hands-on, pro-active, ownership.
-Located in Beijing or Shanghai, China.
